A cost per pallet and a rate per mile are different ways of expressing price. To compare them, calculate the complete charge for the same shipment and included service. A small number attached to one unit is not necessarily a cheaper movement.
Explore MoreFreight cost per unit is an allocation of a defined shipment cost across the products or units in that shipment. It can help with internal costing, but the result depends on the allocation method. Dividing by item count is simple; it is not always a useful reflection of how different products occupy capacity.
Explore MoreCompare freight quotes against the same shipment, service commitment and included work. A lower headline amount can represent a different job: less handling, a different delivery window or a price that leaves an additional charge outside the total.
Explore MoreThe dimensions needed for a freight request are the maximum outside dimensions of the packed handling unit—not necessarily the dimensions of the pallet underneath it. Include the complete height from the bottom of the handling unit to its highest packed point.
Explore MoreStackability describes whether another load can be placed above a handling unit under the appropriate conditions. It is not established by a flat-looking top or a short packed height. Give the transport provider the packaging and goods restrictions rather than letting appearance answer the question.
Explore MoreNet weight describes the goods themselves; tare describes the packaging or empty equipment included in the measurement; gross weight is their combined weight. For a shipment request, identify the packed handling-unit weight rather than leaving the carrier to infer whether a quoted number excludes the pallet or crate.
Explore MoreThe number of pallets that fit in a 53-foot trailer depends on usable interior dimensions, packed pallet footprints, orientation and the loading requirements. A familiar pallet count is a planning shortcut—not a guarantee that your freight fits a particular trailer.
Explore MoreLinear feet of freight describe length occupied along a vehicle floor under a stated loading layout. They are not the same as cubic feet, and they should not be estimated simply by adding every pallet’s longest dimension when units can sit alongside each other.
Explore MoreCalculate freight volume by multiplying packed length, width and height in a consistent unit system. Add the volumes of separately handled units to find the shipment’s total cube. Volume describes space; it does not tell you whether the goods are stackable or how they will fit on a vehicle floor.
Explore MoreFreight density is packed gross weight divided by the volume occupied by the packed shipment. Use the outside dimensions and include the packaging and pallet in the weight. The result describes density; it does not automatically establish a freight rate or a universal classification.
