Decision support

Is LTL the right service for this shipment?

LTL is usually a strong starting point when freight is palletized, does not require an entire trailer, and can move through a consolidated freight plan.

If the shipment needs exclusive equipment or cannot wait for consolidation, WTM may recommend freight, dedicated transport or hotshot instead.

1. Is the shipment palletized or on skids?
2. Does the freight require an entire trailer?
3. Does it need dedicated urgent movement?
Select the options above.

This tool provides service guidance only. Dispatch makes the final shipment-specific recommendation.

How consolidation works

Shared capacity without treating your freight like a parcel.

LTL remains commercial freight transportation. Pallets and skids are planned around usable trailer capacity, shipment requirements, pickup access, destination access and the operating lane.

✓
Palletized freight Secure commercial freight to pallets or skids appropriate for transportation and handling.
✓
Shipment-specific equipment Equipment selection depends on size, weight, handling and origin/destination requirements.
✓
Cross-docking where useful WTM-operated cross-docking can support freight transfers where the shipment plan requires it.
✓
POD available Proof of delivery is available on request after completed delivery.

LTL quote factors

What determines an LTL quote?

WTM does not publish a universal LTL rate because freight pricing depends on the actual shipment and lane.

01

Origin & destination

The freight lane and distance affect the operating plan and available service.

02

Pallet count

The number of skids or pallets helps determine required trailer capacity.

03

Dimensions

Length, width and height matter because usable trailer space depends on the freight footprint.

04

Weight

Approximate or confirmed shipment weight is required for practical equipment planning.

05

Pickup & delivery access

Dock availability, ground-level access and site conditions can change how the shipment must be handled.

06

Special requirements

Temperature control, TDG, white glove requirements and timing can affect the recommended service and equipment.

Before pickup

Prepare LTL freight for efficient handling.

STEP 01

Secure the freight

Place suitable freight securely on a pallet or skid and protect it from shifting during normal transportation and handling.

STEP 02

Measure accurately

Provide the complete footprint and height, including anything extending beyond the pallet.

STEP 03

Provide the weight

Give dispatch the best available shipment weight before transportation is confirmed.

STEP 04

Explain site access

Tell WTM how freight can be loaded and unloaded and identify any unusual access conditions before pickup.

Regional LTL services

Local service pages for key WTM markets.

The regional LTL authority lives here. City pages provide location-specific information without replacing this parent service.

Planning northern and priority freight: Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Fort McMurray, Cranbrook, Lloydminster and Yellowknife shipments should be booked as early as practical. WTM does not publish one universal LTL cutoff because timing depends on the route and shipment.

Pickup to POD

How a WTM LTL shipment moves.

01

Quote

Send lane, pallet count, dimensions, weight and timing.

02

Review

Dispatch checks suitability, lane and handling requirements.

03

Confirm

Shipment acceptance is confirmed before transportation begins.

04

Consolidate & Move

Freight enters the appropriate WTM LTL operating plan.

05

Deliver / POD

Final delivery completes the movement; POD is available on request.

Selected corridors operate on prescheduled routes with regular WTM presence, including weekends. Pickup timing is still shipment- and origin-specific, so public pages should not promise one universal same-day pickup or transit time.

LTL questions

Less Than Truckload FAQs.

What is LTL freight shipping?

Less Than Truckload shipping combines smaller commercial freight shipments within shared trailer capacity. It is intended for freight that needs palletized commercial transportation without reserving the entire trailer.

What information does WTM need for an LTL quote?

Provide the pickup city, destination, pallet or skid count, dimensions, approximate or confirmed weight, cargo description, required timing and any specialized handling requirements.

Is there a universal WTM LTL booking cutoff?

No. Booking timing varies by lane. Priority routes including Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Fort McMurray, Cranbrook, Lloydminster and Yellowknife should be booked as early as practical.

Can LTL freight be temperature controlled?

Temperature-controlled capability must be confirmed directly with dispatch. Provide the required conditions before booking; availability is not confirmed by this page or quote form.

What if my freight is too urgent for normal LTL consolidation?

A dedicated or hotshot service may be more appropriate when freight cannot wait for a consolidated LTL operating plan. WTM dispatch can review the required deadline and equipment.

Does submitting the LTL quote form book my shipment?

No. The form begins the quote and shipment-review process. Shipment acceptance and booking require confirmation from WTM.

Have pallets ready to move?

Send WTM the origin, destination, pallet count, dimensions, weight and required timing. Dispatch will review whether LTL is the right transportation option.
