Canadian domestic freight brokerage
Freight Broker in Toronto
A Toronto order can be ready to ship while the receiving plan is still unresolved. A warehouse dock in the GTA and a street-level shop downtown need different delivery arrangements. Give your freight broker the actual destination and unloading conditions, and you can compare options that address the whole move.
Tell WTM your pickup, destination and what needs moving. We’ll review your request and help you assess a suitable carrier arrangement.

Toronto freight routes: plan the corridor and the final delivery
| Route to discuss | Main-road context |
|---|---|
| Toronto to Montréal | Highway 401 east connects with Québec Autoroute 20. Specify which side of Montréal receives the freight. |
| Toronto to Ottawa | Highway 401 and Highway 416 form one corridor; the final approach depends on the receiving address. |
| Toronto to Barrie | Highway 400 provides the northbound corridor. A local delivery appointment remains separate from the highway journey. |
These corridors explain the geography; they are not truck-specific driving instructions or confirmed WTM lanes. The operating carrier checks the suitable route, vehicle restrictions and current conditions for the actual shipment.
Nearby communities and the last-mile details
For requests involving Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, Pickering and Richmond Hill, include the actual pickup and delivery addresses. A nearby community name helps explain the area, but it does not confirm service availability.
For a retail delivery, obtain the receiving entrance, permitted arrival window and a contact who can accept the pallet. A street address alone does not explain where a truck can stop. If stock must go through a service elevator or into a store, request that work explicitly; standard freight delivery should not be treated as an installation or inside-delivery booking.
GTA freight brokerage for local and onward delivery
Send WTM the load once and identify the service requirement clearly: shared pallet freight, an urgent dedicated movement, a multi-stop order or a full vehicle. For GTA collections, provide the supplier release reference and actual warehouse bay. For deliveries, give the unloading method and the latest useful arrival.
For goods arriving from China, plan the Canadian handoff before the international shipment arrives. WTM now offers ocean and air shipping enquiries from China to Canada. The China-to-Canada shipping guide explains how to compare modes and prepare a complete request.
If a Toronto-area order continues to Alberta, identify the final consignee rather than only an intermediate warehouse. Compare Toronto to Red Deer LTL or another named destination using its actual receiving requirements. A terminal arrival and a business delivery are different milestones.
Price the handoff your business actually needs
A freight delivery, an inside delivery and an installation are different jobs. Describe the point where the carrier hands over the goods, any stairs or elevator, and whether unpacking or debris removal is needed. Request those services explicitly if they are part of the job.
A shipment example: what changes the quote?
Illustrative planning example—not a completed WTM shipment.
Consider two pallets of display fixtures going from Toronto to a shop in Ottawa. The shop has no dock, a narrow doorway and limited storage. A dry-van LTL quote may suit the linehaul, but the delivery still needs a suitable tailgate and an agreed handoff location. The packed fixture size—not the bare product size—determines whether the proposed unloading arrangement works.
Ask the receiver whether it can accept both pallets at once. If it cannot, compare a planned split delivery with the costs and handling of holding freight. Do not ask the driver to solve an unbooked storage problem at arrival.
LTL, FTL, hotshot or courier for your Toronto shipment?
Brokerage is how transport is arranged. LTL, full truckload, hotshot and courier describe different service needs; choose the service first, then confirm the vehicle and handling plan.
| Service | When to assess it |
|---|---|
| LTL / partial load | Shared capacity can suit suitable palletized freight. Compare occupied space, stackability, handling and the receiving deadline. |
| FTL / dedicated capacity | Assess exclusive trailer or vehicle use when the load, timing or handling needs justify it. It is not determined by one universal pallet-count rule. |
| Hotshot | Request urgent dedicated transport when the ready time and operational deadline make it necessary. The vehicle must still fit the freight. |
| Courier | Consider a suitable smaller vehicle for compact commercial items. Check payload, openings and collection requirements before adding a skid or heavy unit. |
Match the load to the equipment
- Dry van: enclosed transport for suitable freight needing weather protection; confirm door clearance and loading method.
- Flatbed / flat deck: consider open-deck access for long items or side and overhead loading; specify support and protection.
- Reefer: request an assessment for a defined temperature requirement, including loading condition and monitoring needs.
- Straight truck or smaller vehicle: may suit local access, provided payload, cargo space and unloading equipment fit the load.
These are equipment-selection considerations, not a statement that every option is available on every route. WTM confirms the proposed service and carrier arrangement for your request.
Skids, pallets, docks and floor loads: what to measure
Measure the finished shipping unit, including its pallet or skid and any overhang. Give the maximum length, width, height and gross weight of each different unit. Identify what is non-stackable. Confirm both loading and unloading equipment, not just whether the address is commercial.
If cartons are floor-loaded rather than palletized, state the count and who provides loading and unloading labour. For heavy equipment bearing directly on the trailer floor, the proposed carrier must assess weight distribution and support. Those are different issues, so describe the physical load.
No dock? Describe the available forklift or ask about a suitable tailgate, also called a liftgate. Platform fit and capacity must match the unit. A pallet jack needs a compatible base and a firm, reasonably level surface; it does not automatically solve gravel, slopes or inside delivery.
What affects a Toronto freight quote?
The complete price depends on the lane, available capacity, packed weight and space, timing, equipment and additional handling. Ask what is included for appointments, extra stops, waiting, tailgate service or other requested work. Compare quotes using the same shipment description and receiving requirements.
Prepare the pickup and delivery postal codes, a packing list, the ready date, required arrival and receiving contacts. Read what goes into a freight quote for questions to ask before accepting an offer.
Questions before you book
Does a freight quote include bringing the goods inside?
Only if that work is part of the agreed service. Describe the doorway, internal route and placement needed so it can be assessed and priced.
Can I request a quote for one pallet in Toronto?
Yes. Send the packed size, gross weight, commodity, pickup and destination, plus the receiving setup. WTM will review your Toronto request and confirm whether a suitable service is available.
Will WTM carry the freight or arrange another carrier?
WTM offers transportation services and Canadian domestic freight brokerage. A broker-arranged shipment is physically moved by another carrier. The arrangement is confirmed for your booking; this city guide does not imply a WTM office, terminal or locally based fleet in every city.
