Work backwards from the person who needs the box
Ask when the package must be in the receiver’s hands. A repair booked for tomorrow morning, a business closing this afternoon and a shift change create different requirements. Do not substitute a general “deliver today” request when the receiver actually needs it before a particular hour.
Then establish the earliest genuine collection time. An order placed with a supplier is not ready just because payment has been processed. Confirm where the box is held, its release reference and the person who will hand it over.
Use a timeline rather than a guessed latest booking time
The following example is illustrative. It is not a WTM timetable or a road-transit promise.
| Stage | Example input to confirm |
|---|
| Receiver’s requirement | Package accepted before a stated appointment |
| Receiving access | Named contact, open entrance and any check-in process |
| Transport arrangement | Dispatch-confirmed service appropriate to that deadline |
| Collection readiness | Supplier confirms the packed box is available |
| Booking decision | Quote approved and shipment acceptance confirmed |
The calculation runs from the deadline back through the work required. Dispatch supplies the available transport commitment; you supply accurate readiness and receiving information. Do not invent a latest safe collection time by subtracting a map’s driving estimate.
Keep the parcel description separate from urgency
One box might contain a compact component, a heavy tool or several fragile parts. These are different handling problems even when each shipment is described as “one box.” Give the outside dimensions, gross weight and any orientation or handling requirement.
Use suitable packaging, secure accessories and identify all pieces. If the contents need temperature control, specify the product’s transport conditions before accepting a standard urgent-courier quote.
Decide what can change when the preferred window is tight
Ask the receiver whether another authorised person can accept the package, whether a receiving window can be extended or whether an agreed alternative handoff is possible. Those are decisions for the customer and receiver—not assumptions the driver should make at arrival.
Likewise, ask the supplier whether it can release the goods earlier. The safest way to improve an urgent plan is often better coordination at either end, not a promise to drive faster.
Use the existing route service as the booking foundation
WTM’s Edmonton-to-Fort-McMurray same-day courier page explains the service. This planning guide helps turn a particular box and deadline into a complete request. It does not replace that route page or publish a new blanket delivery guarantee.
After confirmation, the Customer Portal provides quote decisions, payments, real-time GPS tracking and available shipment documents. Keep the same reference in your supplier and receiver messages so each person knows which urgent box is moving.
Can a small parcel use dedicated transport?
Yes. Urgency and handling can justify dedicated service independently of shipment size. Ask for the available option for your deadline.
What should I do if the supplier is not ready at the agreed time?
Tell dispatch immediately. Changed readiness may change the delivery plan and should not be hidden until the driver reaches the supplier.
Give WTM a deadline that matters and a box that is ready. We can then assess a practical Edmonton-to-Fort-McMurray collection and delivery.
