Translate the purchase into a transport-ready load
A buyer may purchase a boxed appliance, workshop machine or other large item from a supplier or private seller. The seller’s product description is not necessarily a freight specification. Ask whether the goods will be on a pallet or in a crate, what the complete measurements are and how much the packed unit weighs.
Also ask who will prepare and secure it. Booking transport does not automatically arrange a pallet, protective packing or dismantling. Agree those jobs before the collection window is set.
Three people may have different responsibilities
You may pay for the transport, another person may release the goods and someone else may receive them. Supply all three roles clearly. The name on the invoice does not tell a driver whom to meet at collection.
| Role | Detail to provide |
|---|
| Booking customer | Contact and approved quote/payment arrangement |
| Person releasing the pallet | Address, ready time and collection authorisation |
| Receiver | Delivery address, contact and unloading arrangement |
Use the same shipment reference in messages between these people. Avoid asking the driver to settle purchase terms or decide whether the seller has supplied the correct product.
Residential addresses are access requirements
Tell WTM if either address is a home. A pallet in a garage and one beside a warehouse dock involve different equipment and handling. State steps, narrow driveways, soft ground or restrictions on the vehicle approaching the property.
A tailgate may be appropriate for an accepted load at a suitable site. It does not automatically include carrying goods into a basement or unpacking them. The quote should identify where the physical handoff occurs.
Choose freight timing that suits a one-off purchase
If the delivery date is flexible, request the most economical suitable service. If you have hired equipment or arranged people for unloading, tell dispatch the relevant appointment before booking. Do not hire unloading help around an unconfirmed estimated arrival.
WTM’s LTL service is a useful starting point for a pallet that can share capacity. An unusual load or strict deadline may require another vehicle or service.
Confirm who will carry the pallet
A one-pallet shipment may be booked with its operating carrier or arranged through a freight broker. WTM added Canadian domestic freight brokerage on October 1, 2026. Ask which arrangement applies to your quote, who will collect and deliver the pallet, and how shipment updates will be provided. Our broker-versus-carrier guide explains the roles.
Requesting a quote and opening a credit facility are not the same thing
You can start by requesting a price for a single shipment. The payment arrangement and shipment acceptance must then be agreed. Do not confuse an online customer login with permission to pay on credit terms after delivery.
WTM’s Customer Portal provides quote review, payments, tracking and issued records. Businesses arranging recurring shipments or funded credit may discuss separate offers; a first-time private customer should first establish the quote for the actual job.
Can WTM collect from a seller on my behalf?
Yes, for an accepted transport arrangement. The seller must authorise release and have the agreed load ready.
Must I choose a freight classification before contacting WTM?
Describe the actual goods, packed dimensions, weight and handling. Dispatch can request any further information needed for its quote rather than asking you to guess unfamiliar terminology.
Start with your purchase and the two addresses. A one-pallet freight enquiry can be specific without being complicated.
