Confirm which assets the supplier wants back

Obtain the receiving reference and acceptance instructions. Identify ownership, container types and any condition requirements before collection. WTM transports the accepted return load; it does not decide whether a container is reusable or eligible for an account credit.

Separate unrelated disposal material from the authorised packaging return. If containers previously held special products or still contain residues, disclose that condition for review rather than describing every returnable asset as clean empty packaging.

Count before nesting or bundling

Record the number of totes, lids, bases and other components in your own inventory. Secure compatible pieces so the receiving warehouse can reconcile the return without searching loose lids or unidentified bundles.

Nesting may reduce volume, but it also changes the load’s shape and stability. Measure the final pallet or bundle after preparation and include its gross weight. Do not reuse the original filled-product dimensions if the return configuration is different.

Prepare the collection and receiving methods

Specify where the packaged return is staged in Red Deer and who can release it. A collection from a yard requires accessible prepared freight, not permission for the driver to select items from a mixed pile.

Give the Calgary receiver’s unloading equipment, appointment and entrance. If the delivery needs a tailgate or another handling arrangement, include that requirement in the quotation. Empty packaging can still be bulky, heavy or awkward to move.

Treat return freight as a planned inventory task

Compare the cost and practical effect of regular small recoveries with less frequent larger returns using your actual space and order pattern. There is no automatic best frequency: the supplier’s asset availability and your storage constraints both matter.

Keep the WTM shipment reference, POD and invoice with the container-return record. The transport receipt confirms the handling-unit handoff; your packaging register should still show the number and type of assets inside each secured load.

Can containers be collected when new stock is delivered?

Request the replacement delivery and packaging recovery together, with separate quantities and handling details. The return must be ready and included in the accepted arrangement.

Does a truck returning to Calgary mean the empty packaging travels free?

No. A return load still needs capacity, handling and a receiving plan. Ask for the applicable quote rather than assuming it is included in the original delivery.
