Canadian domestic freight brokerage

Freight Broker in Montréal

Moving freight between Montréal and Ontario starts with a clear lane, but the quote also depends on which warehouse receives it and how that warehouse unloads. WTM can review a Canadian domestic brokerage request with your pallet dimensions, appointment requirements and preferred dates in one place.

Tell WTM your pickup, destination and what needs moving. We’ll review your request and help you assess a suitable carrier arrangement.

Montréal freight routes: plan the corridor and the final delivery

Route to discussMain-road context
Montréal to TorontoAutoroute 20 connects westward with Ontario Highway 401.
Montréal to Québec CityAutoroute 40 follows the north-shore corridor; Autoroute 20 is the south-shore alternative, with the appropriate river crossing.
Montréal to SherbrookeAutoroute 10 is the principal eastbound corridor toward the Eastern Townships.

These corridors explain the geography; they are not truck-specific driving instructions or confirmed WTM lanes. The operating carrier checks the suitable route, vehicle restrictions and current conditions for the actual shipment.

Nearby communities and the last-mile details

For requests involving Laval, Longueuil, Boucherville, Dorval and Terrebonne, include the actual pickup and delivery addresses. A nearby community name helps explain the area, but it does not confirm service availability.

Identify the warehouse by its complete civic address and receiving door. Montréal island, Laval and the South Shore are distinct pickup locations, even when someone describes all of them as Montréal. Provide receiving instructions in the language supplied by the facility, along with appointment numbers and the contact responsible for resolving a refused delivery.

Make the receiving appointment part of the quote

An appointment is a receiving requirement, not just a note added to the address. Identify who books the slot, what reference the driver needs and how the receiver handles an early or late arrival. Ask whether the proposed service can meet the requirement and which charges apply if the facility creates waiting or requires redelivery.

A shipment example: what changes the quote?

Illustrative planning example—not a completed WTM shipment.

Imagine six pallets of packaged household goods moving from a Boucherville warehouse to Toronto. One pallet is taller and cannot be stacked. The quote should reflect each pallet separately, not six identical units. If the receiver requires an appointment number, arrange it before dispatch rather than assuming the driver can join a first-come receiving queue.

Compare shared LTL capacity with partial truckload using handling tolerance and occupied space. A non-stackable pallet may change the comparison even when the combined weight is modest.

LTL, FTL, hotshot or courier for your Montréal shipment?

Brokerage is how transport is arranged. LTL, full truckload, hotshot and courier describe different service needs; choose the service first, then confirm the vehicle and handling plan.

ServiceWhen to assess it
LTL / partial loadShared capacity can suit suitable palletized freight. Compare occupied space, stackability, handling and the receiving deadline.
FTL / dedicated capacityAssess exclusive trailer or vehicle use when the load, timing or handling needs justify it. It is not determined by one universal pallet-count rule.
HotshotRequest urgent dedicated transport when the ready time and operational deadline make it necessary. The vehicle must still fit the freight.
CourierConsider a suitable smaller vehicle for compact commercial items. Check payload, openings and collection requirements before adding a skid or heavy unit.

Match the load to the equipment

  • Dry van: enclosed transport for suitable freight needing weather protection; confirm door clearance and loading method.
  • Flatbed / flat deck: consider open-deck access for long items or side and overhead loading; specify support and protection.
  • Reefer: request an assessment for a defined temperature requirement, including loading condition and monitoring needs.
  • Straight truck or smaller vehicle: may suit local access, provided payload, cargo space and unloading equipment fit the load.

These are equipment-selection considerations, not a statement that every option is available on every route. WTM confirms the proposed service and carrier arrangement for your request.

Skids, pallets, docks and floor loads: what to measure

Measure the finished shipping unit, including its pallet or skid and any overhang. Give the maximum length, width, height and gross weight of each different unit. Identify what is non-stackable. Confirm both loading and unloading equipment, not just whether the address is commercial.

If cartons are floor-loaded rather than palletized, state the count and who provides loading and unloading labour. For heavy equipment bearing directly on the trailer floor, the proposed carrier must assess weight distribution and support. Those are different issues, so describe the physical load.

No dock? Describe the available forklift or ask about a suitable tailgate, also called a liftgate. Platform fit and capacity must match the unit. A pallet jack needs a compatible base and a firm, reasonably level surface; it does not automatically solve gravel, slopes or inside delivery.

What affects a Montréal freight quote?

The complete price depends on the lane, available capacity, packed weight and space, timing, equipment and additional handling. Ask what is included for appointments, extra stops, waiting, tailgate service or other requested work. Compare quotes using the same shipment description and receiving requirements.

Prepare the pickup and delivery postal codes, a packing list, the ready date, required arrival and receiving contacts. Read what goes into a freight quote for questions to ask before accepting an offer.

Questions before you book

Is a requested delivery day a confirmed appointment?

No. Ask for the agreed service timing and the receiver’s confirmed slot. Share the appointment reference and receiving contact before dispatch.

Can I request a quote for one pallet in Montréal?

Yes. Send the packed size, gross weight, commodity, pickup and destination, plus the receiving setup. WTM will review your Montréal request and confirm whether a suitable service is available.

Will WTM carry the freight or arrange another carrier?

WTM offers transportation services and Canadian domestic freight brokerage. A broker-arranged shipment is physically moved by another carrier. The arrangement is confirmed for your booking; this city guide does not imply a WTM office, terminal or locally based fleet in every city.
