Canadian domestic freight brokerage
Freight Broker in Calgary
Your next Calgary shipment may need a different solution from your last one. A few skids for a customer, long construction materials and an urgent replacement part do not belong in the same equipment decision. Send WTM the load details and deadline to start a practical quote discussion.
Tell WTM your pickup, destination and what needs moving. We’ll review your request and help you assess a suitable carrier arrangement.

Calgary freight routes: plan the corridor and the final delivery
| Route to discuss | Main-road context |
|---|---|
| Calgary to Edmonton | Highway 2 is the main northbound intercity corridor. |
| Calgary to Lethbridge | Highway 2 and Highway 3 provide a common southern connection. |
| Calgary to Vancouver | Highway 1 provides the westbound starting corridor; the carrier confirms the full mountain routing. |
These corridors explain the geography; they are not truck-specific driving instructions or confirmed WTM lanes. The operating carrier checks the suitable route, vehicle restrictions and current conditions for the actual shipment.
Nearby communities and the last-mile details
For requests involving Airdrie, Balzac, Chestermere, Cochrane and Okotoks, include the actual pickup and delivery addresses. A nearby community name helps explain the area, but it does not confirm service availability.
Separate a Calgary warehouse dock from a site on the metropolitan edge. A construction delivery in Cochrane or a yard near Balzac may need a gate contact, forklift availability and a vehicle turning plan. Include the actual delivery address rather than asking for a generic Calgary rate and adding the site details later.
Separate the details of every different load shape
A mixed order should have a line for each pallet, crate or bundle type. Record dimensions, gross weight, stackability and handling restrictions separately. This lets the broker assess whether one arrangement fits everything or whether comparing separate movements would be useful.
A shipment example: what changes the quote?
Illustrative planning example—not a completed WTM shipment.
A Calgary distributor is sending four skids of boxed hardware and a long bundle of rails to Edmonton. The bundle may occupy more usable floor space than the skids and may need side loading. Quote the two freight shapes accurately. Splitting the rails from the boxed stock is a comparison to request, not an assumption that one truck will handle everything.
Tell WTM whether the items must arrive together. A lower-cost split movement may be unsuitable if the installation crew cannot start without the complete order.
LTL, FTL, hotshot or courier for your Calgary shipment?
Brokerage is how transport is arranged. LTL, full truckload, hotshot and courier describe different service needs; choose the service first, then confirm the vehicle and handling plan.
| Service | When to assess it |
|---|---|
| LTL / partial load | Shared capacity can suit suitable palletized freight. Compare occupied space, stackability, handling and the receiving deadline. |
| FTL / dedicated capacity | Assess exclusive trailer or vehicle use when the load, timing or handling needs justify it. It is not determined by one universal pallet-count rule. |
| Hotshot | Request urgent dedicated transport when the ready time and operational deadline make it necessary. The vehicle must still fit the freight. |
| Courier | Consider a suitable smaller vehicle for compact commercial items. Check payload, openings and collection requirements before adding a skid or heavy unit. |
Match the load to the equipment
- Dry van: enclosed transport for suitable freight needing weather protection; confirm door clearance and loading method.
- Flatbed / flat deck: consider open-deck access for long items or side and overhead loading; specify support and protection.
- Reefer: request an assessment for a defined temperature requirement, including loading condition and monitoring needs.
- Straight truck or smaller vehicle: may suit local access, provided payload, cargo space and unloading equipment fit the load.
These are equipment-selection considerations, not a statement that every option is available on every route. WTM confirms the proposed service and carrier arrangement for your request.
Skids, pallets, docks and floor loads: what to measure
Measure the finished shipping unit, including its pallet or skid and any overhang. Give the maximum length, width, height and gross weight of each different unit. Identify what is non-stackable. Confirm both loading and unloading equipment, not just whether the address is commercial.
If cartons are floor-loaded rather than palletized, state the count and who provides loading and unloading labour. For heavy equipment bearing directly on the trailer floor, the proposed carrier must assess weight distribution and support. Those are different issues, so describe the physical load.
No dock? Describe the available forklift or ask about a suitable tailgate, also called a liftgate. Platform fit and capacity must match the unit. A pallet jack needs a compatible base and a firm, reasonably level surface; it does not automatically solve gravel, slopes or inside delivery.
What affects a Calgary freight quote?
The complete price depends on the lane, available capacity, packed weight and space, timing, equipment and additional handling. Ask what is included for appointments, extra stops, waiting, tailgate service or other requested work. Compare quotes using the same shipment description and receiving requirements.
Prepare the pickup and delivery postal codes, a packing list, the ready date, required arrival and receiving contacts. Read what goes into a freight quote for questions to ask before accepting an offer.
Questions before you book
Should unlike items travel on the same truck?
Possibly, if their protection, support, loading and delivery requirements are compatible. Ask for an assessment using each item’s actual shipping details.
Can I request a quote for one pallet in Calgary?
Yes. Send the packed size, gross weight, commodity, pickup and destination, plus the receiving setup. WTM will review your Calgary request and confirm whether a suitable service is available.
Will WTM carry the freight or arrange another carrier?
WTM offers transportation services and Canadian domestic freight brokerage. A broker-arranged shipment is physically moved by another carrier. The arrangement is confirmed for your booking; this city guide does not imply a WTM office, terminal or locally based fleet in every city.
