WTM Logistics · Shipping questions answered
Door-to-door freight describes a movement between the agreed collection and delivery addresses. It does not, on its own, specify who unloads, whether a tailgate is provided or how far the goods are moved inside. Ask WTM to state the loading and final handoff in your quote so “delivery included” means the same thing to the sender and receiver.

Replace a broad phrase with a precise handoff
Say where the load will be made available at pickup and where the receiver needs it at arrival. A warehouse dock, an accessible ground-level space, a shop threshold and a room upstairs are different endpoints for the handling task.
The existing 5-ton straight-truck service can support suitable commercial loads and tailgate requirements. Equipment selection must still match the shipment’s weight, dimensions and access. The availability of a tailgate is not a blanket answer to stairs, soft ground or oversized freight.
Four questions make a freight quote clearer
| Question | A useful answer identifies |
|---|---|
| Who loads at origin? | The sender’s equipment or the agreed loading service |
| How does the load reach ground level? | A dock, suitable forklift or agreed tailgate operation |
| Where does the carrier hand it over? | A named accessible unloading or delivery point |
| What happens after that? | Receiver handling or specifically quoted inside placement |
These details need not make the booking complicated. They remove the assumption that a truck arrival automatically includes every movement between road and final use.
Compare quotations at the same service level
One quote may assume a commercial receiver with a forklift. Another may include tailgate unloading at a house. Comparing only the totals would confuse two different jobs.
For an individual buying a pallet of flooring, the supplier’s statement “we ship door-to-door” should be followed by a practical receiving question: where will the pallet be set down and who moves the cartons afterwards? If the buyer needs inside placement, request that service rather than expecting it to appear at no additional arrangement.
Likewise, a seller collecting from inside a storage unit needs to distinguish access to the unit from moving goods to the loading position. The quote should identify the party responsible.
Tell WTM about changes before collection
A switch from a warehouse address to a residence can change equipment and receiving requirements. Added cartons, a heavier pallet or blocked vehicle access can also alter the plan. Update dispatch so the accepted service describes the current job.
For delivery records, have the authorised receiver check the count and visible condition at the agreed handoff. A POD records that transport handoff. It is not a record that installation, unboxing or movement to an unquoted location was completed.
Is unloading always an extra charge?
Not necessarily. It may be included in the quoted service or priced separately. The important point is to have the applicable loading and unloading arrangement written into the quote.
Does inside delivery include installation?
Do not assume it does. Placement, unpacking, assembly and installation are distinct tasks. WTM should confirm any additional handling that is part of the accepted job.
Ask for a door-to-door quote with a named unloading point. WTM can match the transport and handling to what you actually need delivered.
