WTM Logistics · Shipping questions answered

Freight prepaid and freight collect normally identify who is billed for transportation: the shipper for prepaid, or the receiver for collect. They do not, by themselves, tell you that a payment has already cleared or that the driver will collect money at the door. Confirm the bill-to party and payment arrangement when booking with WTM Logistics.

Translate the words into a named payer

Write down the company or person approving the freight charge, the invoice details and the contact responsible for payment. The sender, recipient and payer may be three different parties. The booking should make that arrangement explicit before collection.

Warp’s explanation of prepaid and collect freight distinguishes the billed party from the timing of payment. Likewise, XPO’s Canadian bill-of-lading instructions provide separate shipper, consignee and bill-to information. Those examples illustrate the terminology; WTM’s accepted quote and payment terms govern your WTM booking.

WordingPractical question to ask
Freight prepaidWhich sender or nominated payer receives the transport bill?
Freight collectHas the receiver agreed and been approved to pay for this transport?
Third-party billingWho authorises that payer and where should the invoice go?

Do not write “collect” merely because the buyer offered to reimburse the seller. A private agreement between buyer and seller needs to be translated into the carrier’s actual billing arrangement.

Prepaid freight is not the same as prepaid shipping credit

WTM’s funded-credit offer is a separate account arrangement: customers add credit and can receive up to 25% off eligible services. That is not a discount automatically created by marking a bill of lading prepaid.

The 10% recurring-shipment offer is also separate. Discuss the applicable arrangement using the service you intend to book. Do not combine percentages or assume every billing label qualifies for an account offer.

Compare the total purchase and transport cost

A seller may quote a delivered product price, while another offers a lower goods price with transport arranged separately. Compare the same goods and complete delivery service, including the agreed unloading requirement.

For example, a buyer purchasing one pallet from Edmonton for Cranbrook should establish whether the seller’s price includes the freight or whether the buyer will approve a separate WTM quote. The receiving business should not learn at delivery that it was expected to pay a charge it never authorised.

Keep the paperwork consistent

Use the same shipment reference on the approved quote and transport records. If the payer changes before collection, ask dispatch to confirm the change rather than editing only a document at the pickup counter.

The Customer Portal provides access to quotes, payment and issued invoices. Keep those records with the purchase order so accounts can identify what was transported and which approved arrangement applies.

Does freight collect mean cash on delivery for the goods?

No. Paying freight charges and collecting the seller’s purchase price are separate services. Do not ask a driver to collect sale proceeds unless a specific service has been expressly agreed.

Can the recipient pay even when the sender requests the quote?

Discuss that arrangement before booking. The payer’s approval and the accepted payment method need to be confirmed; naming someone else does not automatically authorise billing them.

Book the shipment with a clear payer, an agreed price and consistent records. WTM can explain the applicable payment arrangement before the goods move.

Keep the delivery and its records together

Request your shipment, review and approve the quote, and pay online through the WTM Customer Portal. Follow the movement with real-time GPS tracking. Issued BOLs, proof of delivery, invoices and previous shipments remain accessible from your account.
