Separate booking information from package identification
Your confirmation email helps you follow the booking. The physical package still needs to be identifiable throughout collection and delivery. Ask what label or reference should be attached, who will prepare it and how the driver will match the goods to the accepted shipment.
For several parcels, identify each piece consistently. A single label for an unspecified pile of boxes may not provide enough information. Remove or cover obsolete labels as appropriate so the new destination is clear.
Label arrangements vary between services
Some carriers offer specific alternatives. Purolator’s published mobile-app guidance describes a QR-code option taken to a Purolator shipping location for label printing. That is a location-based service, not evidence that any driver will print any carrier’s label at your door. See Purolator’s mobile shipping guidance.
For a WTM pickup, obtain WTM’s instructions for that booking. The purpose is to have identification ready before the vehicle arrives, not to choose a printing method that belongs to another carrier’s product.
A useful no-printer message
Send: “I can pack and measure the shipment, but I do not have a printer. Please confirm the label or paperwork required and how it should be prepared before collection. There are [number] packages going from [origin] to [destination].”
If someone else is releasing the goods, include them in the plan. A supplier may be able to prepare the correct identification, but ask first rather than assuming it will do so for your private transport booking.
Pallet paperwork needs its own check
A bill of lading and a carton label perform different jobs. For freight, confirm the issued documents and the instructions for presenting them. The WTM Customer Portal provides access to BOLs and other records as they become available, but downloading a file does not mean a physical copy is no longer required for the accepted process.
Do not write your own replacement shipping document to avoid asking which version should be used. Keep the shipment reference, piece count and addresses consistent between the booking and whatever identification WTM requires.
Solve the problem before the collection window
A printing issue discovered at pickup can interrupt a ready vehicle and an otherwise usable schedule. Mention it with the initial request, particularly when the shipment is urgent or the release location is closing soon.
Keep the package closed and prepared; avoid attaching a phone or loose device containing the label. Do not display unnecessary personal information simply because you are improvising identification. Follow the carrier’s agreed method.
Does a quote require a printed label?
You can request a quote using the shipment details. Label and documentation requirements are then part of preparing the accepted shipment.
Will WTM’s driver bring a printer?
Do not assume that. Confirm the identification and document arrangement with dispatch before collection.
Can the supplier label the box for me?
Ask the supplier and WTM to agree what is needed. The person releasing the goods must know which reference and destination apply.
Tell WTM about the missing printer early. The objective is a correctly identified shipment, not a last-minute guess at the door.
