Find the collection instruction in the confirmation
Look for a pickup appointment, collection reference or instruction to drop the parcel at an accepted location. A document describing the shipment and price may still require another step before the package enters the carrier’s network.
Read the selected product’s instructions rather than assuming all online labels work alike. For example, UPS’s Canadian shipping guide lists pickup and customer drop-off as separate ways to hand a prepared package to UPS. See UPS’s package-shipping guide.
Separate four useful stages
| Stage | What it establishes |
|---|
| Quote or estimate | Proposed service and price basis |
| Label or shipping document | Identification and shipment information |
| Accepted collection arrangement | Where and when the carrier will receive the goods |
| Physical handoff | The goods have actually entered the accepted transport movement |
A reference generated at an early stage is not proof that the later stages have occurred. Use the carrier’s own confirmation to establish the status instead of guessing from a printed label alone.
What to check when nobody has arrived
Confirm that collection was requested for the correct date and address, that the goods were ready within the accepted window and that the release contact could be reached. Check whether the service instead expected you to drop the parcel off.
Contact the carrier handling that label before creating a second booking out of uncertainty. Do not assume WTM can cancel another carrier’s label or determine the terms of that transaction. Any credit or cancellation question belongs with the provider that issued it.
Booking a new WTM movement
If you decide to arrange WTM transportation, provide the actual load, origin, destination and deadline. Explain that another label or booking exists so the physical package does not retain conflicting instructions.
Confirm the new accepted service before releasing the goods. Follow the instructions for correct identification, including treatment of obsolete labels. Do not hand a package with one carrier’s label to another carrier without an agreed new arrangement.
An urgent label is not an urgent vehicle
Paying for an express product does not make a not-yet-collected parcel move. For a strict deadline, confirm both collection and delivery. Have the sender verify the packed goods are ready and the receiver confirm availability.
WTM’s quote and booking guide explains those decisions for freight. The same practical distinction helps a person sending one box: requesting a price, accepting the service and completing the handoff are separate events.
Does filling in the WTM quote form book a pickup?
No. It starts the request. WTM confirms the service, price and collection arrangement before shipment acceptance.
Can I use a label bought elsewhere for a WTM booking?
Do not assume that. Arrange the WTM shipment and use the identification and paperwork specified for it.
Can tracking show a reference before the package is collected?
A created shipment reference and physical collection are different things. Use the relevant carrier’s status information and confirmation to establish what has happened.
Check the collection commitment, not just the label. That is the step that gets a prepared box into a real delivery movement.
