Count tasks as well as boxes
“Six boxes” could mean six prepared cartons waiting beside an accessible door. It could also mean belongings that still need sorting, packing and carrying down several flights of stairs. The first is mainly transport; the second includes work that should be described and priced separately.
State whether furniture, unpacked items or unusually heavy pieces are included. Do not book a basic parcel collection and expect the driver to assemble the shipment on arrival.
Compare equivalent service scopes
| Question | Parcel or freight approach | Moving-service approach |
|---|
| Who prepares the goods? | Transport-ready packages are normally part of the request | Packing may be included if expressly arranged |
| Where is pickup? | An agreed handoff with specified handling | Removal from rooms may be part of the quoted job |
| What travels? | Described packages, pallets or crates | Contents and furniture described in a moving inventory |
| What happens on delivery? | Agreed carrier handoff | Placement or unpacking only if included |
This table describes questions to compare, not automatic promises by every provider. Read the actual quote.
Give personal shipments the same clarity as business freight
Explain the contents well enough to select suitable packaging and handling. Provide the packed measurements and weight of each piece, along with collection and delivery access. A personal ownership label does not change the vehicle space the goods occupy.
For a few boxes, ask about the appropriate courier arrangement. For a secured pallet or crate, WTM LTL may be relevant. For a removal task, refer to WTM’s moving and relocation service and confirm the applicable scope and locations.
Include the work you cannot do yourself
Tell the provider when an item cannot be safely carried by you, when access involves stairs or when disassembly is required. Do not omit necessary work to make a transport quote look cheaper. A low quote for goods already at a loading point does not replace a removal quote for goods still inside a home.
If you arrange packing or loading assistance separately, coordinate its timing with the confirmed carrier collection. The two services should not depend on an unverified assumption about when the other will arrive.
Compare total cost against convenience
Include packaging, any separate loading help, collection and final handling in your comparison. A dedicated removal vehicle may offer a different scope from a scheduled shared-capacity shipment. Decide which parts of that scope you actually need.
A useful request is: “These are [number] sealed cartons, with no unpacked furniture. They are ready at [handoff point]. I need delivery to [address] and [specific assistance, if any]. Please advise whether courier, freight or a moving service fits.”
Can personal belongings travel as freight?
WTM can assess suitable prepared consignments. Describe the contents, packaging and access rather than assuming all belongings use the same service.
Does door-to-door shipping mean room-to-room moving?
Not automatically. Confirm the physical collection and delivery points and any inside handling.
Choose the provider for the work required, not just the number of boxes. That makes a small shipment easier to book and compare.
