A loading dock, a vehicle liftgate and a forklift solve different parts of a freight handoff. The right arrangement depends on the load and the site. “We can receive a truck” does not establish how a packed pallet will move from the vehicle to its agreed receiving point.
Use this checklist to gather the receiving facts before requesting transport. It does not certify equipment capacity or tell an untrained person to operate lifting equipment.
Establish the actual handoff

Treat the last row separately. Lowering a pallet to ground level is not the same as moving it through a building to a final room.
Give the equipment team the load details
Provide maximum packed dimensions, gross weight, unit count and any unusual shape or centre-of-gravity concern known to the shipper. Equipment ratings are not interchangeable; do not infer that a liftgate or forklift is suitable just because another unit has handled a similar order before.

Check the ground and access
A paved receiving area, loose gravel, a slope and an obstructed entrance create different conditions. Tell dispatch about the actual delivery point and available access. Include restrictions on vehicle size, permitted entrances or the time the unloading area is accessible.
Do not move heavy freight across unsuitable ground simply to keep a booking on schedule. Resolve the handoff plan with the responsible parties before arrival.
Test a typical misunderstanding
In an illustrative delivery, the buyer says the shop has a pallet jack. That statement does not explain how the pallet will leave the truck, whether the pallet jack suits the surface or where the goods must be placed afterwards.
The complete instruction might require an appropriate tailgate, a defined ground-level area and receiving staff responsible for the onward movement. The specifics need to be agreed for that shipment; a single equipment name is not the full plan.
Confirm the arrangement close to collection
When the receiving equipment breaks down or the normal dock is unavailable, advise dispatch. A recurring address can still present a new unloading problem. Keep the changed instruction attached to the booking rather than passing it only to the customer.
