WTM Logistics · Shipping questions answered
A framed picture needs a shipping plan for its glazing, frame, finish and prepared size—not just its weight. WTM Logistics can review a suitable courier, freight or special-handling movement within its coverage. Describe how the artwork will be protected and the handoff required before booking transport.

Identify what makes the piece vulnerable
Tell the service team whether the frame contains glass or another glazing material, whether the artwork projects beyond it, and whether its surface is especially delicate. Give the measurements after protection has been added. A large light frame can occupy significant vehicle space and need careful support.
Do not place tape or wrapping directly against a sensitive artwork surface unless a competent packer or conservator has specified that method. Valuable or irreplaceable pieces deserve a suitable professional packing assessment rather than improvised protection at collection.
Canada Post’s packaging guidance addresses front-and-back protection and cushioning for framed pictures. It provides a general packing reference, not a guarantee that one method suits every artwork or every transport service.
Decide who prepares the package
A seller may already provide a purpose-built carton or crate. A private sender may need a packing service before the carrier collects. Identify that responsibility clearly; special handling during transit does not remove the need to prepare the item.
For several frames, state whether each is separately protected and labelled. Avoid describing several loose pieces as “one picture shipment” without explaining the number of handling units. Tell WTM which packages cannot be stacked or laid flat, and have the packer define any required orientation.
Match the service to the handling requirement
A suitably prepared small frame may fit a courier movement. A large framed panel or crated artwork may need freight or an agreed white-glove transport arrangement. The decision involves size, fragility, value, access and the transport conditions requested.
Ask where custody transfers at each end. Gallery reception, a residential entrance and upstairs placement are different jobs. Unpacking and hanging are separate tasks unless expressly included; the words “art delivery” should not be used as a substitute for a detailed scope.
Preserve useful condition records
Photograph the item and completed packaging before release, including any existing marks that matter to the owner. Record the package count and use a reference understood by the receiver. At arrival, document visible package concerns promptly without confusing a delivery signature with a specialist artwork assessment.
Discuss the shipment value and any required protection arrangements during booking. This article does not assign a standard insurance amount or promise cover for every type of damage. The applicable terms must be confirmed for the actual service.
Can a courier collect from the framing shop?
Yes. Arrange release with the shop and confirm who supplies the final packaging. The shop’s completed dimensions give WTM a useful basis for the quote.
Does a fragile sticker guarantee upright handling?
No. Agree the actual handling requirements with WTM and prepare the package accordingly. A label alone does not define a dedicated or specialist service.
Request transport for the prepared artwork and the handling it needs. WTM will quote the complete collection and delivery arrangement.
