WTM Logistics · Shipping questions answered
A wait-and-return courier request means taking a document to an agreed receiver, waiting for a defined task and bringing the specified papers back. It is different from booking delivery now and a separate collection later. Ask WTM for a quote that states the waiting allowance, return destination and what should happen if the appointment runs late.

Define the task the courier is waiting for
The useful instruction is specific: deliver a sealed document pack to a named person, wait for that person to complete their work, and collect the return envelope. Include the appointment reference and a phone number for the receiving office.
A courier transports the papers. The driver should not be expected to explain a contract, witness a signature, assess whether every page is correct or give legal advice. Arrange any professional signing or witnessing requirement with the appropriate person before booking transportation.
Choose between waiting and returning later
A short, predictable handoff may suit an agreed wait-and-return arrangement. An uncertain review that could take hours may be better organised as two separately timed journeys. Ask for the options using a realistic estimate of the receiving task.
| Appointment situation | Arrangement to discuss |
|---|---|
| Receiver ready at a confirmed time | Direct delivery with a defined waiting allowance |
| Review time uncertain | Delivery followed by collection once the papers are ready |
| Return deadline fixed | Confirm both the signing appointment and the latest return time |
Do not assume waiting is free, unlimited or automatically included in a courier price. Get the applicable charge and authorisation process in the quote without inventing a universal per-minute rate.
Give dispatch a decision point for delays
State who can approve additional waiting and how that person can be reached. If the recipient is unavailable, dispatch needs a clear instruction rather than a driver making commercial decisions at the door.
For example, an office might authorise a short wait, then ask the driver to leave the documents and arrange a later pickup if the signatory is delayed. That fallback changes the movement and should be agreed before extra work proceeds.
A local wait-and-return and a regional return trip also have different transport requirements. Do not treat the time spent driving between cities as part of a few minutes waiting at reception.
Track both document handoffs
Identify the outgoing and returning packs with non-sensitive references. Keep confidential contents sealed, and tell the receiving office what should be released for the return leg. A driver should not need to open the envelope to identify the shipment.
Use delivery records to distinguish the first handoff from the return. In the WTM Customer Portal, retain the quote, available shipment documents and invoice against the job. GPS location can help you follow transport, but it does not show whether the recipient has finished reviewing the papers.
Can the papers return to a different address?
Request that in advance. The return leg needs its own recipient, address and receiving window; it is not necessarily a journey back to the original sender.
Can I book this for a private document appointment?
Yes, you can request the transport arrangement as an individual. Professional document services and the recipient’s appointment remain separate from the courier’s role.
Tell WTM where the papers must go, what the driver would wait for and when the return is needed. We will quote the actual document movement.
Arrange the next shipment without losing the paperwork
The WTM Customer Portal keeps shipment requests, quote decisions, online payments and history in one place. Track active deliveries with real-time GPS and find issued bills of lading, PODs and invoices when the shipment is complete.
