WTM Logistics · Shipping questions answered

For a one-time pallet delivery, compare a freight quote with the complete cost of doing the trip yourself. A rental truck’s daily price is only one input: the return journey, fuel, time and loading equipment also matter. WTM Logistics can quote collection and delivery so you can compare the same job on both sides.

Put the whole journey on paper

A self-drive trip can include travel to the rental depot, pickup of the goods, delivery, refuelling and return of the truck. Add any necessary transport home after returning the vehicle. Use the rental terms applying to your booking rather than assuming mileage, protection or equipment is included.

Then ask how the pallet will be loaded and unloaded. A vehicle with enough cargo space is not necessarily a vehicle with the required tailgate or suitable capacity. The pallet’s gross weight, base dimensions and the receiving surface determine what needs to be arranged.

For the freight option, request the origin, destination, timing and the handling at both ends in one quote. An apples-to-apples comparison cannot use dock delivery for the carrier and inside placement for the self-drive alternative.

An illustrative comparison—not a WTM rate

Suppose your own figures are $170 for the rental and agreed mileage, $65 for fuel, $40 for required handling equipment and four hours of time valued at $30 an hour. The comparison total is $395: $170 + $65 + $40 + $120.

If a complete carrier quote were $290 and your handoff time were half an hour at the same value, that option would total $305. These figures are invented solely to show the calculation; they are not WTM prices, rental prices or a market savings claim.

Change the assumptions for your actual situation. Someone already making the journey, with appropriate loading equipment and spare capacity, may face a very different choice. Do not count fuel twice when it is already included in another all-in cost.

Include the consequence of an unsuccessful handoff

A buyer who arrives after the warehouse closes still has a rental truck but no freight. A loaded truck reaching a home without a safe unloading arrangement has a different problem. Confirm appointments, contacts and lifting access before treating either option as workable.

WTM’s LTL service is a starting point when the load can use shared capacity and an agreed delivery schedule. A dedicated hotshot addresses a separate requirement when the goods need their own urgent movement. Neither should be chosen merely because the shipment contains one pallet.

Compare the complete quoted price

For either a direct-carrier or broker-arranged shipment, check the same items: transportation, fuel, pickup and delivery access, unloading, appointments and any additional charges. Ask whether brokerage compensation is included or listed separately. Confirm the quote’s validity and the assumptions that could change the price. Use our freight quote breakdown as a checklist.

Decide which option leaves you with a complete delivery

Choose using the actual delivery commitment, handling scope and your own time valuation. Keep purchase collection, delivery and final placement distinct so there is no last-minute assumption about who carries, installs or unpacks the goods.

Does LTL mean I must own a business?

No. An individual can request a pallet-shipping quote. The load still needs proper preparation and a workable handoff at each address.

Can I compare a dedicated quote as well?

Yes. Give WTM the required arrival deadline and ask for the suitable service options. Compare each option against the same complete self-drive job, not only the rental’s headline price.

Ask WTM for the full pallet delivery quote, then compare it with the complete journey you would otherwise make.
