Start with the receiving question
Does the receiver need to know whether a defined threshold was exceeded, when an event occurred, or the recorded temperature profile throughout transport? These are different evidence requirements.
SpotSee’s logger guidance distinguishes recorded temperature histories from simpler exposure indicators. Its WarmMark product information illustrates an indicator that responds to time and temperature. Those are manufacturer examples, not statements about which device is supplied with a WTM shipment.
Logging does not necessarily mean live reporting
A device can store readings for download at delivery without transmitting anything during the journey. Conversely, an alert-capable system requires the relevant connectivity and configuration. Ask how the information reaches the responsible person and what happens when it cannot be transmitted.
This distinction prevents a buyer from expecting an immediate warning from a device designed only to be read after arrival. It also keeps location tracking separate from temperature evidence.
Sampling affects what the history can show
Consider a fictional logger recording at 10:00, 10:15 and 10:30. Its table contains observations at those times. It does not directly measure every moment between them. A graph connecting the points is a visual representation, not additional recorded samples.
Choose the recording interval and device response with the product owner’s monitoring requirements in mind. An interval is not the same as sensor response time, and adding more decimal places does not add more observations.
Prepare an evidence handoff
Record the device identifier, activation time, intended placement, configuration and person responsible for reading it. Confirm whether it travels back to the sender or stays with the receiver. Keep the full original output when a discrepancy needs review rather than retaining only a cropped alarm image.
The product owner determines the relevant acceptance process. An indicator change is evidence to assess under that process, not a universal instruction that the goods are acceptable or unacceptable.
For WTM transport, state additional monitoring and document requirements while requesting the quote. The Customer Portal provides shipment and delivery records; agree any separate temperature-data requirement as part of the booking.
Is an indicator always less useful than a logger?
No. Its usefulness depends on the decision and required evidence. A simple signal can fit one task while a time history is necessary for another.
Can I place the device anywhere in the vehicle?
Use the placement specified for the intended measurement. A device measuring air near a door answers a different question from one associated with a particular package.
