Measure the complete shipping package
Include end protection, the outer tube or carton, projecting handles and any protective frame. A two-metre item inside a larger transit package occupies the space of that package, not the product listed on the invoice.
Describe whether the parcel can bend, whether it must remain level and where it can safely be supported. A flexible roll and a rigid finished rail may have similar dimensions but different handling needs.
Photographs can help explain an unusual shape. They complement dimensions rather than replace them.
Match the vehicle and the access route
The cargo area must accommodate the parcel, and the item must be loadable through the vehicle opening. Tell WTM how the supplier will hand it over and whether equipment or additional handling is required.
At delivery, include the actual entrance and the available receiving space. A long parcel going through a narrow office corridor creates a different task from delivery to a workshop bay.
For larger orders, freight transport may be more suitable than parcel courier service. The choice should be made before collection, with the dimensions and receiving arrangements visible in the quote.
Keep long packages identifiable and protected
The sender should protect vulnerable ends, finished surfaces and loose fittings using packaging appropriate to the product. Secure small accessories so they cannot become separated from the main order.
Put the shipping reference where it remains readable without removing the protective packaging. For several matching lengths, specify whether they form one secured bundle or several separate parcels.
For example, three boxed display rails and a fittings carton are four outer packages unless the sender has prepared them as one transport unit. That distinction helps both pickup and receiving teams count the same shipment.
Choose a service for the customer’s deadline
Share when the package will be ready and when the receiver needs it. Planned business orders can be assessed for scheduled courier movement; an installation waiting on a replacement part may need a direct delivery arrangement.
